Annual report for the year - 2017 - 2018
Esteemed guests of the day, Dr. Aji. C Panikar, Member of Syndicate, Mahatma Gandhi University , Kottayam , Adv. Tulasi Teacher, President Grama Panchayat, Kalady, Prospective Teachers, Non- Teaching Staff members and dear students,
With respectful Pranams at the Lotus feet of Our Patron Sri Sri Bharathee Theertha Maha Swamigal , Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Barati Swamigalof Sree Sarada Peetam Sringeri, I feel much privileged to present the report of the functioning of this institution during the academic year 2016-2018 before the august audience present here.
Adi Sankara Training College named after the great Philosopher, Sri Adi Sankaracharya started its journey in the year 2005 and keeps a mission to mould the future teachers of our country with strong base on Philosophy, Psychology, Pedagogy and to create awareness on many innovative teaching methods and technology. This temple of knowledge is run by the Adi Sankara Trust and at present the entire administration of the educational institutions under the trust is efficiently carried out by the Managing Trustee Advocate K Anand. With the Guidance and support of Board of Trustees, Academic Council Members, Teachers, Parents, Well Wishers, Staff and Students we could continue to maintain good reputation among other Teacher Education colleges in the state.
Our college carries forward the legacy of Adwaita philosophy of the greatest teacher philosopher Jagat guru Adi sankaracharya.
Just like the previous years this year is also marked with many events and success stories. This can be attributed to the dedication and team spirit of the staff, students and members of our Top Management.
As the college is functioning under self financing sector we follow the directions and policies of the State government and University in the admission procedure. This academic year we started the admission procedure in June 2017.For this academic year 2017-18 we have 50 students distributed in 7 optionals.
The college re opened after mid summer vacation on 1st June 2017. Formal Induction ceremony for the 1st year B. Ed students was held on 26th June. Dr. N.K. Aarjunan Sir, the very famous academician and teacher educator who is the author of various text books prescribed for B.Ed. progrmme inaugurated the ceremony and introduced the revised B.Ed. curriculum.
In the beginning of each academic year staff council is formed. Staff members are elected for different positions. The staff council will assist the Principal in the administration and staff-members are assigned with different duties. The Principal is presiding over all the staff council meetings to make major decisions.
Principals discusses academic plan with the staff during the staff – meeting. All works are divided among staff members. All the matters are discussed to implement successfully.
A day of the college starts with the morning assembly. Morning Prayer, thought for the day, and sharing the important news of the day are useful to fill the minds of the budding teachers with moral values, ethics and civic responsibility.
The new batch of students showcased their individual talent on Talent Day organized on 2nd August 2017. As a teacher, they should possess different talents.. All the students expressed their talents in different ways. Based on their performance student teachers were divided into four houses to ensure healthy competition in arts and sports fests organized at the college.
College Union Election
Election to the College Union was held peacefully on 8th September and a 15 member executive committee was formed. Member of the college union for the year 2017-18 year took oath on 9th September. Following are the members of the college union.

Arts and College Union Inauguration
College union and Arts club inauguration was held on 22nd December 2017. Mr. Wallace Paul inaugurated the union activities and Mr. Krishnakumar K.K (HOD, Dept. of Theartre, SSUS, Kalady inaugurated the Arts Club activities.
Seminars and Workshops
One day Yoga workshop organized on 23rd August was inaugurated by Yogi Sureshji. To meet the demands of the new curriculum, a two day theatre workshop was organized on 21st and 27th September. Two day workshop on glass painting and fabric painting was also organized with the support of Fevicryl company on 22nd and 23rd September. A seminar cum workshop on ICT in Education was arranged at Adi Sankara Institute of Engineering & Technology on 23rd October 2017.
Students went to Sameeshka for attending a seminar on Sree Narayana philosophy on 14th October 2017.A seminar to promote life skills was organized on 23-01-2018 with the support of Brahma Kumaris Eswareeya Vidyalaya,.
A Workshop on techniques of producing short film was organized as it is mandatory part of B.Ed. curriculum. Fr. Anil, Asst. Director from film industry handled the session. One day seminar on Family life, Life style diseases, influence of Social media etc was conducted on 26-02-2018. The class was taken by Sri. Yugesh Varghese, Secretary of Pro life foundation.
Various clubs are functioning in the college for developing the skills of the teacher-trainees. Language Club, Science Club, Nature Club, Oratory Club, Health Club, Energy Club, Commerce Club, Maths Club, Social Science Club etc. function well. Dr. Sambath Kumar inaugurated the club activities of the academic year on 10th August 2017. All the 9 clubs organized various activities. Students take initiative to celebrate National festivals and important days. Clubs also organized various activities at school during the 5 months internship programme at schools.
School induction and Internship Program
To develop professional capacities, teacher sensibilities and skills among the prospective teachers university insists 1 month induction programme and 4 months school internship spreading over two phases. our second year students underwent 4 months internship in 21 different schools from July to october2017 and first year students have done 1 month induction programme from 23rd January to 22nd February 2018.
Community living camp
A five day community living camp was organized from 11th January to 15th January 2018. Various programmes like social service, seminars, visit to culturally and environmentally ikportant places , old age homes, orphanages etc were included in the camp as specified by the University.
Important National and International Days celebrations
Hiroshima & Nagasaki day and Independence Day, republic day were observed with due dignity. The convocation ceremony of 2015-17 students was held on 30th August 2017. T.P Raveendran, Registrar SSUS Kalady inaugurated the ceremony. Our Managing Trustee Sri K. Anand was the president of the. Programme. Women’s Day was celebrated in grandeur on 8th March 2018. The students added meaning to the celebrations by arranging a video presentation, Quiz competition and various games. Talk by Prof. Rejith Kumar, Sree Sankara College, Kalady was indeed an enriching experience for the aspiring teachers.
Youth Festivals and Competitions
Our college take initiatives to improve the talents of our teacher-trainees. We, always allow students to participate in various competitions.
‘Swami Vivekananda Elocution Competition’ which was held at B.H.S.S, Kalady, on January 5th, 2018. I am very much proud that our students bagged all the positions-first, second and third prizes in English as well as Malayalam elocution.
About 50 students from first year and second year participated in Sakalakala programme conducted by Sree Sankara School of Dance Kalady and received.
The Arts Festival of 2016-18 batch students was conducted from 1st February to 5th February 2018.
The students participated in the Inter National Sree Shankara Dance & Music Festival on 23rd & 24th December 2017 organized by sree sankara school of dance, kalady. Our students participated in the audition of ORU NIMISHAM programme conducted by Flowers Channel. Three of them were selected and they performed in the programme on 14th December 2017.
SUPW and Community Service
As a part of extension programmes students visited St. Clare Oral School and interacted with the students on 13th October 2017 and in the afternoon session a seminar on Montessori technique was arranged. 2016-18 batch students participated in the awareness programme (Vimukthi) organized for B.Ed. students by The Kerala State Excise Department at YMCA Hall, Perumbavoor on 14-02-2018.
Our students participated in Suchitwa Bhodhana Padayatra on 5th January2018.
And also our students painted and decorated the class rooms of Govt. L.P School Manickamangalam to make the school premises student friendly.
Field Trips and Tours:
As part of part of B.Ed. curriculum a field trip was conducted to Chimney Wildlife Sanctuary and Ezhattumugham on 16th December 2017. An Educational tour was organized for second year students from 15th to 19th February 2018. They visited Chikmangalore, Belure & Coorg.
The placement cell of our college functions to impart information to the teacher trainees about the teaching opportunities in India and abroad and we also acts as a channel in recruiting teachers for schools in various parts of the country and abroad. Many number of schools of the Ernakulam district place their demands for various subject-teachers. We are happy to announce that almost all members of our alumni are teachers and administrative staff in both aided and unaided schools all over the country.
I know that alumni of our college are our lasting legacy and strongest voice and our Alumni Association functions well in the college. Normally it meets once in a year. College convinces special meetings of the office bearers Of the Alumini Association to take important decision on important matters of the college. Many of the Alumini are well settled in different walks of life. So far around 1035 committed teachers have come out in flying colures.
Parent Teacher Association is very actively working in the college which provide essential services to the students and staff, PTA executive committee was formed on 26th June 2017. Sri. Tharian. P.T.A President of the year 2017-18.
Festivals and Celebrations
The college always follows a secular outlook. We celebrated Christmas in a beautiful manner. Fr. Francis Kizhakedath MSFS Vicar St. Joseph’s Church, Thavalapara gave X’mas message to the gathering on 16th December 2017. X’mas was celebrated in a grand way on 22nd December 2017.
Third sem practical examination was held on 22nd November 2017 and the theory examination was on 21-12-2017.First semester university examination was held from 5-1-2018 to 17-1-2018. Forth semester practical exam was conducted on 26th march 2018.
First sem result was published by the University on 13th December 2017. Out of 45 students we secured 3 A+ grades, 16 A grades, 21 B grades and 5 C grades.
Now I take this opportunity to thank our Patron, Managing Trustee and Board of Trustees, members of the teaching staff and non-teaching staff, PTA, Alumni and my dear students for the sincere co-operation in the process of growth and development of the institution. I also thank all the Principals of the schools who supported and helped our students to accomplish the 5 months school internship programme.
In the words of the famous philosopher Aristotle ‘A Teacher affects eternity he can never tell when his influence stops” and the roots of Education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet .Let me conclude my words again by a quote “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. The whole process of education is shaped by a human personality called Teacher.
Be a teacher who is a good friend, motivator and inspirer for the future generation
We have a great mission ahead to mould creative teachers for the new generation.
Let us continue our march and achieve the goal. I wish a long life and glory to this institution. I pray the blessings of Adi Sankara to all.
